Miles Turns One

Miles has been celebrating the end of his first year in a variety of ways -- cutting his top two teeth, climbing our stairs and stepladder, pulling the bath plug and jamming a key chain thoroughly down the drain -- but this weekend he paused to eat his first cupcake.

And successfully fended off his brother's attempt to out-eat him:

                           After a bath, it was on to a couple presents and an ever-entertaining musical card.

A couple days later Noah reclaimed the spotlight by finding a pair of scissors in a desk drawer and using them on his hair.  Did quite a job.  Trimming the top center of your head straight down to the roots makes for an interesting effect.  Very avant garde -- yet in a way that also suggests homage to Randy Quaid's Amish rube in Kingpin.  Before he pulled that stunt, though, we made some orrechiette.

Although the weather promised sunshine, we hit the apple orchard and pumpkin patch under heavy skies.


The minimally-sprayed Jonagolds and Romes were scarce and marred by spots from the constant humidity of the past month, but that didn't dampen Noah's spirits. He got right to work picking and lugging apples, and rearranging the pumpkins.


Miles got into the spirit too testing the pumpkins by banging them, and working on a toothless imitation of apple eating.
